Gold Chuck Taylors Shoes By the mid 1920s, Chuck Taylor was a team player and players' manager. Playing basketball with a talented group of cagers, he was not in the NBA since the Non-Skids folded. His new basketball team shot hoops for the Converse All-Stars Barnstorming team. His crew still however became a starring attraction, traveling through the Midwest's semi-professional basketball scene, dominating other teams.

In addition to Chuck Talyor, the Converse All-Stars basketball team also had star athlete Carlyle Friddle. According to reports, Friddel was an amazing athlete. He was a star player for Franklin High School in Indiana and part of the college-level group termed the "Wonder Five". This athleticism is the imprint the Converse brand wanted to push into the mind of Chuck Taylors shoes wears.

By the time World War 2 came about in 1939, Chuck Taylor changed professions. The former Converse All-Stars player joined middle-aged high school and college coaches, becoming a physical fitness instructor. Chuck also decided to join the coaching crews for the Army and Navy military forces.

At Marquette University, Chuck Taylor became a physical fitness instructor for the Navy's "pre-flight" program. While there, Taylor coached the wonderful Wright Field Air-Tecs from 1944 - 1945. He worked with the group diligently at what is now known as the 'Wright-Patterson Air Force Base' in Dayton, Ohio.

In basketball coaching, Chuck Taylors, was a team brand name synonomous with same greatness. He coached and helped build many college All-Americans and future NBA players. Some of those basketball talents include Big Ed Sadowski, Long Joh Mahnken, Dwight "Dike" Eddleman, Al Negratti, Bruce Hale, and Johnny Schick. Other greats played for Chuck Taylor as well. However, just these names alone one should be able to see how the man behind the Converse All-Star helped evolve and progress the sport of basketball.

Chuck Taylor's career and commitment to improving the game of basketball made him an undying legend. Today his legacy carries on through the "Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star" shoes. Every time a pair of Chuck Taylor All Star sneakers are worn, his signature can be seen. Converse originally added the Chuck Taylor signature to Converse shoes in 1932.
