History of the Adidas Shoes Company // All Day I Dream of Sports
Adidas shoes is the second biggest sportswear manufacturer in the world after its U.S. rival Nike.
Adidas was founded in 1924 in a small wash kitchen in Herzogenaurach, Bavaria by brothers Adolf “Adi” Dassler
and Rudolf “Rudi” Dassler shortly after World War I. After Adi created his own sports shoe in his mother’s
wash kitchen, the company Dasslers Brothers Shoe Factory, which is now known as Adidas was born. Shortly after the
brother’s came together to build the company they eventually separated starting their own brands. Adi kept with
his original name Adidas which means “All Day I Dream About Sport” and Rudi decided to create a new brand under
the name Ruda which was eventually changed to Puma. Since its beginning, Adidas shoes has wanted athletes to have the
best in sports apparel and was the first to provide sponsorship for an African American athlete. In 1936,
sprinter Jesse Owens was dawned with a pair of Adi’s shoes winning four gold medals at the Summer Olympics pushing
the Adidas brand to the next level.
Today Adidas shoes is seen throughout the world as a brand where “Impossible is Nothing” as they market shoes,
sandals, watches, hats, bags, cologne and more. From street fashion to high fashion Adidas is making sure
it has a sport inspired label that works for all lifestyles. Whether it’s the “Shelltoe” Superstar 80’s or
Copa Indoor Soccer shoes, Adidas is always finding new ways to give their products an edge above the rest.
The Adidas shoes brand has a passion for creativity and that’s why Adidas goes the extra mile to make sure it’s
buyers have the opportunity to express that through their products. Miadidas allows buyers to express their
creativity by designing their own shoes to show their individual style. Even Tennis star Anna Kournikova and
Rapper Missy Elliott have designed a pair that express their personal style.
As Adidas shoes continues to break the rules and go against the grain of your traditional shoe designs, buyers continue
to look towards this brand that has been around for years. Even rap group Run DMC put Adidas on the map in
the early 80’s, as they rocked their gold chains with their Adidas Superstars without any laces. This was the
first time that an endorsement deal was made between a major corporation and hip-hop artist. Due to this deal,
Run DMC released Run -D.M.C. clothing line with Adidas shoes and paved the way for future artists. Adidas- a brand that
represents today’s culture and diversity throughout the world.
