Chuck Taylors All-Star Shoes are worn commonly by sneakers fans today. The shoe is so currently
popular in fact, CKHiD is willing to to bet if you walk down a street, you will see one pair
if 10 casually dressed youth passed. Evolving into a competitor in the US sneakers market
for brands Nike, adidas, and Reebok, many consumers wonder "Who was Chuck Taylor?", a very
common though.
The Converse Chuck Taylors All-Star shoes were indeed named after a "Chuck Taylor". According to
Abraham Aamidor's "Chuck Taylor, All Star: The True Story of the Man Behind the Most Famous
athletic Shoe in History", he was an amazing basketball athlete. In 1919 Chuck played his
first professional basketball game, still a high school student in Columbus, Indiana. At the
time, he was not even old enough to vote, only 17 years old.
Born Charles Hollis Taylor, the name "Chuck" was a popular nickname for all "Charles" of
his time. Born in 1901, somewhere in rural Brown County, Chuck Taylor is said to have been
basketball player and fan from birth. Aiming to be a star basketball player most of his life,
his best rated team was the Akron Firestone Non-Skids.
Chuck Taylor played with the Non-Skids in the early 1920s. The team was an
'industrial league' basketball team at first, but by 1937 the group were pioneers alongside
two other teams in creating the National Basketball League or NBL. The other teams that
were instrumental in creating the NBL were the Akron Goodyear Wingfoots and the
Fort Wayne G.E. Techs. Though the Akron Firestone Non-Skids folded during World War II,
the National Basketball League (NBL) merged with the Basketball Association of America in 1949.
Together, the two leagues for the National Basketball Association or what's commonly known as
the NBA, the premier professional basketball league.
