HIP HOP JEWELRY
— Bling Bling to Black Diamond Jewels » hip hop jewelry

After Jay-Z went strong-minded into the Hip Hop Jewelry world, competition arose from a down south label
named Cash Money Records. Jay Z made a line in song Do It Again which was supposedly aimed towards the upcoming
label. The Brooklyn, NYC native said "both arms chunky...the sleeves on chill // any given time a hundred Gs in the grill //
dont talk to me about emcees got skills // he's alright but he's not real," which does not compute but it was a rumor that
the bling started this.
Post the rumored Jay Z diss, many different rappers stepped into the Hip Hop Jewelry game, competing for
number one stunt man or big willie. Rappers like Lil Wayne, Fabolous, Nelly, Plies, Rick Ross, Wiz Khalifa, and more have
thrown on some amazing custom jewelry pieces. However, no rapper has outdone the jeweler savvy Jay-Z beyond perhaps
Cash Money Records CEO Baby Birdman Williams. Sinking mililons of dollars into his jewelry, he is one of the only other
rappers to wear high quality whole diamond jewelry. Most other rappers wear crushed diamonds, which cost nickels and dimes
in comparison to what Jay Z and Baby Williams spend.
"Everytime I come around your city // Bling! Bling!" said rapper Lil Wayne in the early 2000's hit song
"Bling Bling." He alone is credited for creating the word "Bling" to describe high quality, expensive
Hip Hop Jewelry according to the Webster dictionary. The song also marked a new day in the Hip Hop music
culture as it really made all rappers take notice of the marketing assistance of jewelry. Cash Money Records changed the
game making other record labels and Hip Hop music artists have to step their Hip Hop Jewelry game up.
Baby Williams aka Birdamn, CEO of Cash Money Records, has probably bought the most expensive jewelry to date. While
Hip Hop artists T-Pain and Young Jocc have done some great viral imagry stunts, Baby Williams was the only rappers to
buy a whole diamond chains, watches, and pendants. A lot more expensive than the 'crushed diamond' pendants most rappers
wear, Birdman owns a million dollar necklace, $1.5 million dollar watch, a 900karat birdman chain, and lots more. What
Birdman has spent as a whole on Hip Hop Jewelry is unknown, but some estimate it to be upwards of
$7 million US dollars. Far exceeding the refined lifestyle or rapper Jay Z, he stuck to his lane of being the
"number one stunna" his entire career and conquered the competitoin. As CEO of a very talented and blessed
Hip hop enterprise, Birdman is a multi-hundred million dollar businessman that arose from the improverished streets of
New Orleans and a king of bling in rap.
As Hip Hop music changes and new generations evolve all of these Hip Hop Jewelry trends will evolve and
recycle. Rappers will continue to sport crushed diamond jewelry and amaze the general public, while other connisuers of the
precious metals and gemstones will amaze all. Rappers such as Wiz Khalifa, Plies, and of course C.KHiD will wear creative
custom jewelry to continue the trend this generation but as the artistic quality of rappers rise, so will the design of
hip hop jewerly.
