Crooks & Castles Clothing was founded in 2002 by Dennis Calvero and Robert
Panlilio. The two wanted create a 'villainous lifestyle' brand based off Los Angeles criminal
culture of the 1980s and 90s.
The title of this streetwear brand, Crooks and Castles, has two separate meanings.
Crooks representation for society's street Criminals such as
Pimps, Thieves, Gangsters,and Hustlers. Castles is a representation for
those that get rich by becoming a crook.
Calvero and Panlilio said to a blog, "From the robber barons of the early times like the
vanderbilts, the rockefellers, the carnegies to the modern day billionaires - Bill Gates &
Microsoft. Those who stopped at nothing to get their “Castle”. We too hope one day to be
the next rich crook."
Since making that statement, Crooks and Castles clothing founders have transformed the limited
streetwear brand into a global Hip-hop fashion powerhouse. It's whispered around the streetwear
industry C&C rakes in annual revenues that exceed $200 million.
While Crooks & Castles clothing Medusa t-shirt design was one of the brands most popular
works initially. Since it's conception, it's been featured on a lion's share of the brands clothing
collections becuase of public demand. After the large following latched onto the design, the
Medusa's head became the brand logo.
