Travis McCoy Biography
|
Travis McCoy was born Augusta 5, 1981 in Geneva, New York by the name Travis Lazarus McCoy. Today we know
him as “Travie” the tatted up front man of Gym Class Heroes. Travis met his now band mate Matt McGinley in his
high school gym class and the two bonded over their love of music forming what is now known as Gym Class Heroes.
Since the band formed in 2001, he has performed with the band dropping one album after another performing
across the world. In 2008, Travis McCoy went on to perform on Warped Tours gaining popularity by bringing forth his
unique artistic style to the stage time and time again.
During his musical career, Travis dated Katy Perry and put the romance on the screen when they played a
couple in Gym Class Heroes “Cupid’s Chokehold” music video. After dating Katy for several months Travis McCoy gave
her a promise ring, however, shortly after receiving the ring the relationship went south. Once the spark
went out, Travis and Katy attempted to date again, but it was clear it was not working out. The two went their
separate ways and Travis McCoy went on to record his mix tape “Forgetting Katy Perry”. While the mix tape claimed to
be a hit at his ex-girlfriend Travis McCoy continued to deny the rumors. During this time, Travis continued to stay
focused on his musical career and also pitched in to help with MTV’s Staying Alive Foundation that focused on
global HIV/AIDS prevention projects. As he helped out with these projects, he dropped the song “One at a Time”
that hit home with MTV’s message of global HIV/AIDS prevention.
While Travis McCoy is known for his work with Gym Class Heroes he decided to strike out on his own and begin his
solo gig. Since his time with Gym Class Heroes, Travis has had a hit single entitled “Billionaire” featuring
Bruno Mars that peaked at #4 on the U.S. charts off his solo album “Lazarus” that was released during the
summer of 2010. Travis McCoy, who now refers to himself as “Travie”, also features artists such as Cee-Lo, T-Pain
and Young Cash to lend their vocal abilities on his newly released album that is currently in stores.
