Snoop Dogg Biography
Snoop Dogg, government name: Cordozar Calvin Broadus, was born on October 20, 1971. He was born on the west coast, in Long Beach, CA. His biological father left the family when the hip hop music star was just three months old. His mother and step-father divorced in 1975.

Snoop Dogg began singing as child. He sang in church and played the piano. He reportedly began rapping in the sixth grade. As a teenager, he was convicted of cocaine trafficking and spent six months in jail. He reportedly had some affiliation with the Crips gang.

Snoop Dogg liked to freestyle rap, and he and his rapping friends liked to make mix tapes of themselves. One of these tapes made it into the hands of Dr. Dre…and the rest, as they say, is hip hop music history!

Snoop Dogg became Dr. Dre’s protégé, and Snoop was a very good student. In the early ‘90’s, Snoop released his first album, Doggystyle. “Gin and Juice” and “Who Am I (What’s My Name?) Were overnight hits. The hip hop music community couldn’t get enough of Snoop Dog’s smooth rapping style.

Right about this time, hip hop music and gangsta rap, in particular, was getting a bad rap (no pun intended). Snoop Dogg and Death Row Records were often mentioned anytime gangsta rap was the topic of discussion. Snoop Dogg was often used as an example of how violent gangsta rap was. The fact that many of Death Row Records artists had been in trouble with the law, didn’t help matters much. Dr. Dre left Death Row records. After the tragic death of hip hop legend, Tupac Shakur, and Dr. Dre’s departure from Death Row; Snoop Dogg refused to produce any more records for Death Row.

After leaving Death Row Records, Snoop Dogg’s image began to change. It appeared he was no longer the “menace to society” hardcore gangsta rapper that Middle America feared so much. Snoop Dogg participated in 1997’s Lollapalooza tour, which was mainly comprised of alternative rock bands. Concert goers were dancing to his music and slamming around in the mosh pit!

Snoop Dogg has gone on to win the hearts of many fans since then. He has made tons of hit hip hop records and starred on television shows and movies. Young and old alike love them some Snoop Dogg.
