Lil Wayne Biography
Da’Wayne Carter, also known as rapper Lil Wayne, was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on September 27, 1982. Lil Wayne was one of the original Hot Boys in 1997 but he went solo in 1999 with his album The Block is Hot. Lil Wayne grew up in what was considered a rough part of town in New Orleans and was an aspiring rapper at very a young age. He was known to perform his raps at neighborhood parties and this is where he was eventually discovered. He was signed at age twelve as a rapper with Cash Money Records, U.N.L.V by CEOs, Brian “Baby” Williams and Ronald “Slim” Williams.

As Lil Wayne got further on in the rap game he began to display gang related attire. His mother became worried and tried to pull him out of Cash Money. However, he convinced her to let him get back with the label. Shortly before Cash Money went big something tragic happened in Lil Wayne’s life. One day Wayne was playing with a loaded gun, he accidently shot himself in the chest. When the police arrived Wayne said that the unregistered gun was his step-father’s and his step-father was arrested and sentenced to six months in prison. Shortly after his step-father’s release he was sadly abducted and murdered. After hearing about the events that occured Brian “Baby” Williams decided to act as Wayne’s father from then on.

At a young age Lil Wayne’s rap had a reputation of being strictly gangster, however he did refrain from cursing on some of his early trakcs. Lil Wayne’s second and third albums were 2000’s Lights Out and 500 Degrees. By 2004 Lil Wayne released The Carter and at this time he claimed that he had perfected his trade as a rapper. In 2005 Lil’ Wayne became the president of the Cash Money label and started on The Carter Vol. 2. The Carter II was successful and sold over 238,000 copies. The album went platinum and debuted at number 2 on the Billboard Top 200 albums chart.

There is no question that Lil Wayne is respected as the best rapper of his generation. Lil Wayne has has released more music in two years than the legendary Tupac did in his career. Lil Wayne’s album the Carter III sold 400,000 copies on the first day and reached 1,000,000 in the first week. Lil Wayne then won four Grammy awards including best rap album of the year. Lil Wayne began to show a strong interest in other music genres now he has released his first rock album, Rebirth in early 2010. Though the rapper is currently incarcerated his fans await his release and look forward to more ground breaking music when he is freed.
