50 Cent Biography
Rapper Jay-Z was born in Brooklyn, New York on December 4, 1969 as Shawn Corey Carter. Also raised in Brooklyn, Jay-Z was a school colleague and friend of the Notorious B.I.G. Jay-Z first began releasing music in the late 80’s and he appeared on albums with a close friend named Jaz on a song called “The Originators” and another titled “Original Flavor”. By 1995 Jay-Z dropped an underground hit single called “In My Lifetime”.

Jay-Z was knowledgeable about mercenary labels and drawing from what he knew about Jaz’s dealings, Jay-Z started Roc-A-Fella imprint in 1996 along with Damon Dash and Kareem “Biggs” Burke. Jay-Z’s debut album was called “Reasonable Doubt” and went gold in sales. “Ain’t No N****” from this album was number 50 on the pop charts featured Foxy Brown. The album reached number 23 on the billboard charts by July of that year and attracted a mixture of fans. Jay-Z collabed with the Notorious B.I.G. on the track “Brooklyn’s Finest” and in 1997 his follow-up album “In My Lifetime, Vol. 1” debuted at number 3 on the Billboard Charts. This album featured appearances by P. Diddy, Lil’ Kim, Too Short, Blackstreet, and DJ Premier.

Aside from Jay-Z’s musical success he began writing, producing, and directing a semi-autobiographical short film called “Streets Is Watching”. The soundtrack went gold and introduced several new artists under the Roc-A-Fella label such as Memphis Bleek, Rell, and Diamonds In the Rough. In 1999 Jay-Z blew up after releasing his hit sigles, “Can I get A…” and “Hard Knock Life”. The album with the same name, “Hard Knock Life,” featured Timbaland, DMX, Foxy Brown and Too Short. “Hard Knock Life Vol. 2 stayed at number 1 on the Billboard chart for five weeks in a row.

In December of 1999 Jay released yet another album entitled “Life and Times of S. Carter Vol. 3”. With this release he topped the charts once again. In 2000 he released “The Dynasty: Roc La Familia 2000” and this album also stopped the billboard charts.

Following this album came “Blueprint”, “Blueprint 2”, “The Gift and the Curse”, and “The Black Album”. After the release of “The Black Album” Jay-Z had six consecutive albums to debut at number one on the Billboard Charts and every Album since “Hard Knock Life Vol. 2” has gone at least double platinum.

After “The Black Album” Jay-Z claimed he would retire from rap and that would be his last album. Since then Jay-Z has created his own clothing line called Rocawear and he has married superstar r&b singer Beyonce Knowles. Jay-Z has also recently broke his silence and released yet another album entitled, “The Blueprint 3”.
