Drake Biography

The hip hop sensation known as “Drake” was born October 24, 1986 as Aubrey Drake Graham. He is a
Canadian actor, rapper and singer. He is best known for his role as Jimmy Brooks, the physically
disabled character on the hit tv show Degrassi: The Next Generation. As a rapper, he performs as
Drake, and has often been deemed the title as the new version of The Fresh Prince. Despite several
rumors that Drake had signed with Young Money Entertainment, it was later confirmed that he is only
affiliated with the label. He is currently signed to Cash Money and Universal Motown Records.
Drake was born in Toronto, Ontario. He is the son of Dennis Graham, a musician, (specifically; drummer)
who worked with Jerry Lee Lewis. Drake’s uncle is also musician Teenie Hodges. Drake’s father is
African American, born in Tennessee and his mother is a white Jewish Canadian. When he was five his
parents divorced, and he was raised only by his mother in Toronto’s wealthy Forest Hill neighborhood.
He attended elementary school at Forest Hill Public School, and high school at
Forest Hill Collegiate Institute. It was here, where he began acting. Drake also spent
several summers in the US with his father in Tennessee.
Graham “Drake” began his career of acting in 200. He played the role of “Jimmy Brooks” a character on
the tv show Degrassi: The Next Generation. When the producers of the show cut the entire staff for a
group of all new actors in 2009, his career with the show came to an en
Drake released his first mix tape in Febuary of 2006 by the name of “Room for Improvement.” This mix
tape was available on his webpage and through his myspace page. His mix tape gained him much
popularity and buzz. Drake began to release more and more mix tapes, capitalizing from his new popularity and buzz.
Comeback Season was released in 2007 followed by much critical acclaim and praise. It was here that
Drake began to gain popularity. Comeback Season opened many musical doors for drake. It was on this
tape where he did his first song with Lil Wayne, a remix of the song “Man of the Year” which had
already been popular. Lil Wayne did not add lyrics to this track, but had ad-libs in the end of the
song. During this same time Lil Wayne was entering the peak of his career, it was sure to help boost the
buzz that would follow Drake. Drake released Heartbreak Drake in 2008. This like his other tracks
was a popular release and would be gaining eve more acclaim and buzz than before for the artist. His
next popular track “So Far Gone”, would also included Drake’s new mentor and fellow rapper Lil Wayne.
This track would also feature several members of Young Money. His new hit was released in 2009.
Achieving several milestones only a few years past his acting career, and into his music career, in
2007 Drake became the first Canadian rapper who was unsigned to have his music video debut on
Black Entertainment Television. It was here that his first single, Replacement Girl was played as
the “Joint of the Day.”
