DJ Pauly D, born name Paul DelVecchio, is living the American dream. The Italian-American
car dealer & DJ turned reality TV show star, has become almost a household name. Teaming with
rapper 50 Cent recently to strengthen his branding, the result gets him a Top-10 placement in
Forbes' 'High Paid DJs' list.
“Everybody was skeptical at first, because how everybody heard about me is probably from Jersey Shore,” said
DJ Pauly D of his history. He continues "But now I'm six seasons deep in the show and
I've been touring all over the country, touring with major pop acts and stuff like that.
That legitimizes everything, and they're starting to say, 'This kid isn't just a
reality star, he's an actual DJ.'"
Indeed, fellow DJs did hate on the reality TV show star's disc jockeying skills in 2011.
One video recording that went viral on the web, captured a noteworthy DJ
( whose name is not known at press time ) refusing to speak on Pauly D's skills on the turn-tables.
Instead he would wise-crack with the comment "but he's a nice guy". Well that nice guy is
a DJ to know now.
According to Forbes Magazine, DJ Pauly D raked in $11 million dollars last year working the
'wheels of steel' across the globe. From $40,000 club appearances in Las Vegas' Hard Rock Hotel
to performing for the Britney Spears / Nicki Minaj 'Femme Fatal' world tour, he got paid.
"Older generations hate Pop culture's business trends today. Young people understand
media and branding early on now, creating fast-rising competition. People talking
about DJ Pauly D don't have billboards on the Las Vegas strip with their face on it,
and it makes them mad. " says rap artist C.KHiD of the DJ Pauly D's success.
Living the American Dream, DJ Pauly D has come a long way from his
Providence, Rhode Island years. It was there he left high school to become a
car salesman, with a belief he'd make something out of himself without college.
How many people believed Pauly D would find success without college? Likely few.
However, the young Rhode Islander had one dream, to make a name for himself in the DJ'ing world.
He played at small house parties and clubs, making a few extra hundred dollars per night, for a
5 hour gig. At some point, the current 50 cent affiliate heard about an MTV reality show casting,
and attended. The results of trials, he was one of few chosen to be a part of a new series
called "Jersey Shore."
Now, Rhode Island's prize DJ has converted his 'stunts' on reality TV into a global brand.
The once scolded show has turned DJ Pauly D into a pop culture celebrity
earning $11 million USD or more, per year.
There are tons of professional athletes that can't garner those sorts of annual earnings in sports,
for comparison of financial success.
