Jay-Z recently sat down with MTV for an interview. Discussing what moves he was making in the
business world for 2012, the Brooklyn Nets NBA team quickly became a hot topic. Going in
depth about the new basketball brand, he explained what the Nets "B" logo was strained from.
"I wanted to make it really classic and strong, a throwback to Brooklyn and what we're about,"
Jay said to the MTV reporter. "It's real gritty and we're not about flash -- well, sometimes.
Just the roots of Brooklyn as this very bold, strong, simple logo."
The Brooklyn Nets NBA logo for next season was debuted in New York City in April. Co-owner of the
NBA team and music mogul, Jay-Z, designed the logo. He says inspiration for the artwork came from
the old subway signs of New York subways.
"If you look at the old subway signs they were in black and white," he continued.
"It was that strong, beautiful, iconic black and white. I wanted to pick something that
would stand the test of time and be here forever."
The new Brooklyn Nets logo can be found on the NBA team's new apparel and novelty merchandise
today. Sold on-line at www.nba.com/nets,
celebrities beyond Jay-Z and Beyonce, ranging from rapper Fabolous to entertainer Chris Rock, have already been seen wearing
Nets apparel.
