Politicians should be scared of poets, said New York City rapper Nas in response to a question about his thoughts of the Common/Political controversy with Billboard on May 19. When your dealing with something that's pure, (and) and artist like Common... he doesn't have any lies to tell. He's not angry (with) anybody there, particularly. He's not ignorant. And I just described politicians, right there.
Nas continued on the politics discussion and the absence of former President, George Bush.
Where is Bush? We should see more George Bush, right now. He should be talking more. He should be standing next to Barack Obama more. He should just be talking to the American people that he was once leading ... It's like someone who got away with something and doesn't want to show his face anymore, said Nas.
Nas was curious to know what Bush would think about Osama bin Ladin being dead. The emcee has a humble political past - he once joined protestors at Fox News in New York City for the network's portrayal of African-Americans.
In the interview, Nas also talked about his inspiration, Bob Marley.
Bob Marley's impact is unmatched by any artist, ever. He stands alone with Beethoven. Like Stevie Wonder. Like Michael Jackson. He owns his block. There's been nothing like him. There will be nothing like him, said Nas. But his music is timeless and it's been a great inspiration to me and I had the honor to work with his kids: Damian, Stephen Marley, and meet a lot of his children.
Nas and Damian released Distant Relatives in 2010. The two artists hope to work together again soon.
