NBA Playoffs 2011: Spurs, Lakers, Thunder, or Mavs to Win West Title?
Pick a team; any team from the Western Conference to reach the NBA Championship. I dare you. Go ahead and pick the two-time defending titlists, the Los Angeles Lakers. Why not? The team has the greatest playoff practitioner the game has ever seen in Kobe Bryant (a close call with MJ). But after a stupendous March (12-1) the Lakers are losers in an awful April (1-5). The Lakers' lousy April is a buzz-kill to Lakers fans and a momentum-kill to the team two games before the playoffs. So you should go with the top dog with the Lincoln Log Tim Duncan and the Spurs. San Antonio has the best record in the NBA, so they should be the best bet... Or should they? The Spurs are looking sharp in April after a messy end of March, but will they have enough umph to make a run? I think that most of their players are too old to run. In the last two years the Spurs have failed to make it out of the first and second round. Mavericks anyone? Another tough call. The Mavs, led by Dirk Nowitzki (23 ppg) have been a playoff bust the last three years - each after an impressive regular season. With a second or third seed in the Western Conference, depending on if Dallas finishes in front of or behind the Lakers, expect the Mavs to top either Portland or Memphis in five or six in the first round. Don't expect much more in the second. So, if not the Lakers, Spurs or Mavs, what team could come out on top of the Western Conference? Of the remaining five teams (Thunder, Nuggets, Trail Blazers, Grizzlies and the Hornets), I'd only give a Western Conference title chance to Kevin Durant AKA Durantula and the Thunder. Who will the Lakers, Spurs, Mavs or Thunder play from the Eastern Conference in the NBA Championships? Good question...
