Hip Hop Producer Interview with Los Beats Founder Q

05 / 16 / 2010

Upstate, New York producer Carlos Paez has been at work in Hip-Hop for a few years now. Becoming one of the more popular beat producers on major music site, SoundClick.com, Carlos aka Los is re-inventing the way people look at music. Combining classic sounds, summer time bass lines, and melodies, Los Beats have been so diverse no artist can follow everything. However, every artist that's connecting with Los Beats is landing hits.

This week on CKHID.com, I introduce to the my world, L-O-S Beats producer and studio engineer, Carlos Paez. The guy I go to for all my custom production needs and mixing, anyone who likes C.KHiD music should like his work.

Hip Hop Producer Interview Question :
What's up Los? So lets start off by giving the basics. Where are you from and how did you get into music?

Los Beats (producer) response:
What's going on Ckhid? I was born in Ecuador, I currently reside in upstate NY [Beacon]. I really got interested in music when i was around 12 years old. I remember listening to all different types of music growing up, and unlike most people i really like it all. As time went on I really settled into hip-hop just because of all the different directions you can take a track and the lack of boundaries that hip-hop has.

Hip Hop Producer Interview Question :
If you remember, in what year did you start producing beats?

Los Beats (producer) response:
I believe i started making beats in 2004.

Hip Hop Producer Interview Question :
When you first started, did you have a plan on how to make producing a career or were you just doing what you loved?

Los Beats (producer) response:
I was just doing what i loved, and I'm still doing what i love. As time went on yeah i started doing some research and discovered a whole market for beats and production as well as opportunities to get tracks out there to companies and record labels. It soon became clear to me that pursuing a Carreer in music was possible now more than ever,

Hip Hop Producer Interview Question :
What was the first piece of equipment or program you had to create beats?

Los Beats (producer) response:
My first set up ever was playing notes on a computer keyboard running FL or Fruity Loops as it was called, that's it. No good speakers to monitor, no sound interface, no keyboards or drum pads.

Hip Hop Producer Interview Question :
What are you using now to produce tracks?

Los Beats (producer) response:
As time went on I upgraded to a M-Audio Axiom Keyboard w/ BX5 monitors and a Presonus Firebox sound interface. Running FL and Cubase. I still do a lot of song editing and chopping on good old Cool Edit Pro or Adobe Audition as it is known now.
