San Jose, Costa Rica Video 3 of 4 »
next
This video is on the northside (Norte) side of Downtown San Jose, Costa Rica. I started out in
a small restaurant, where food was very inexpensive. For around $5 (USD) you get a full meal and drink there. The
burger meat was a bit diferet to me, as it might just be natural compared to US meats, but it was still good.
On the northside i found a lot of shopping and parks. It's interesting that a city with such a fast pace has so many
inner-workings to make it feel like you are laid back. I can imagine this country producing some amazing people in coming
years if not already.
After being lost a few times trying to find it, I finally found Costa Rica's famous San Jose Zoo. If
I were living there, a teacher at the zoo with her kids would have surely gotten to know me better as she kept smiling and
passing. Overhearing her speaking to the kids in Spanish, I heard her say she was the Science teacher and believe a
guy who likes animals sparks her interests.
Back to San JOse Zoo animals though! The Zoo is awesome for tourism. You see a lot of species
you can find in American Zoos but quite a few you can't as well. It was very interesting how they kept some of the birds
free in open-air displays, clipped wings or not.
They also have a display in the zoo by a river that runs behind it. It's terribly sad to see how badly
polluted the river north of San Jose, Costa Rica currently is. The sign read that it was so dirty it's
no longer inhabitle to most species and the trash and debri was clearly visible. It's a great 'food for thought'
display for Costa Ricans and tourists. Maybe it will help people clean up their ways.
Last, I'm showing my travel back to my hotel after a long time of being out. I walked the city for hours and hours each
day, then went back to Hotel Del Lago to knock out (dormir). My view of the city from the hotel was lovely
so it was actually 'too comforting' at times because you forget your time is limited to explore. Before leaving the
next day, I finished my new rap song "Wonderful Girl" while in Costa Rica. The beauty of the
Tica's smiles and willingness to talk to a stranger like me was inspiring.
